POETIC VOICE
In the novel, she is called Miss Havisham which retains respect towards her. But in Duffy's poem "Havisham", she is not given a status. This lowers the social status of the speaker in the poem that Duffy recreated from Dickens' book. Although Havisham is the voice of the poem and she believes that her ex-fiance is at fault for her suffering, Duffy's voice comes through as the enjambment in the 2nd and 3rd stanzas suggests that Duffy believes Havisham is at fault for making herself suffer and not getting through the initial trauma of being stood up at the altar.
